Romano Floriani Mussolini has scored his first Serie A goal, reaching a significant milestone with the club where his football journey began.
The 23-year-old Lazio defender found the net in the 16th minute of a 6–2 victory over Sassuolo, converting Kenneth Taylor’s delivery at the far post. An initial offside decision delayed the celebration before VAR confirmed the goal, allowing him to celebrate with Lazio’s travelling supporters.
Developed in Lazio’s academy, Floriani Mussolini gained valuable senior experience during loan spells away from Rome, including a season at Juve Stabia in Serie B. His progression through the Italian football pyramid has now brought him back to Lazio, where he has recorded his first goal in the top flight.
His surname has attracted attention throughout his career. As the great-grandson of Benito Mussolini, he carries a family name associated with one of Italy’s darkest historical periods. The defender has previously expressed his lack of interest in politics, choosing to concentrate on his football career.
The goal comes during a historic opening to Lazio’s campaign, with eight victories and one draw from their first nine league matches establishing the club’s strongest start to a Serie A season.
For Floriani Mussolini, the achievement marks an important step in his development, bringing his journey from Lazio’s academy to a first Serie A goal in the club’s colours.
